The last changelog covers the releases up to 26 September. This changelog covers the 72 releases from 26 September to 12 October, across 23 apps.
Action required: MenuTidy
MenuTidy 2.3.15 and earlier do not check for updates automatically. The fault started in May. Since then, only a manual check finds a new version. 2.3.16 corrects this.
If you use MenuTidy 2.3.15 or earlier, select Check for Updates… once. After the update to 2.3.16, the checks are automatic again.
All apps: About and Settings open on the current space
Before, an About or Settings window that was left open, or closed, on another space switched you to that space when you opened it again. Now the window opens on the space you are on.
This is the only change in these releases:
Credits
The About windows now credit the people whose ideas or reports are in the apps:
- ActiveSpace 2.3.1: Johannes Winkelmann, for the grid layout.
- Jorvik Daily News 1.11.2: thechurchofthechad-dotcom, whose logs showed why some articles did not load.
- MenuTidy 2.3.14: Håvard Pedersen, for the auto-collapse idea and the macOS 26 and 27 fault reports. Brian Liu, who reported that the collapse failed when the built-in display was not the main display.
- RainbowApple 2.0.21: Georg Dresler, for the option to hide the menu bar icon. Matthew J. Sorenson, who reported that the rainbow stayed on screen when the menu bar hides automatically.
- Save Cannes 1.5.5: Christophe Bouhon (@christobaldo), for per-display playback, auto dismiss, art mode, suspend and resume, the idle-timeout warning and other ideas.
ActiveSpace
- 2.3.0: You can give each space a name. In the space selector, right-click a space and select Rename Space…, or use the Space Names section in Settings. A name stays with its space when macOS changes the order of the spaces.
- 2.3.0: Two optional displays show the name: the menu bar bubble (for example
3 · Mail) and captions in Mission Control. Both are off by default. For the captions, ActiveSpace reads Mission Control 4 times each second. This uses approximately 0.1% of one CPU core. No new permissions are necessary.
ASCII Saver, Rainy Day and Save Cannes
- ASCII Saver 2.1.3, Rainy Day 1.2.3, Save Cannes 1.5.3: With Lock screen when dismissed on, a display change locked the Mac. A display change is a display that you connect, disconnect or put to sleep. Each saver closed its old windows before it opened the new windows. During that interval, macOS made another app active, and the saver read this as a dismissal. Now the saver opens the new windows first.
- Save Cannes 1.5.4: The volume down, volume up and mute keys do not stop the saver. All other keys, and pointer movement, stop it as before. Lock screen when dismissed still applies. The idea is from @christobaldo.
Calendar Upcoming
- 2.1.12: The popover opens directly under the menu bar icon. Before, it could open lower on the screen.
- 2.1.13: In dark mode, the popover uses the standard macOS popover material. Before, it used its own flat charcoal background.
ClipMan
- 2.0.30, 2.0.31: On macOS 27 in dark mode, the Paste button showed no label. Both buttons are now standard macOS buttons. Paste, the return (default) action, has an outline in the system accent colour.
Jorvik Daily News
Feeds:
- 1.6.1: Add Feed closes when it finds the feed, in approximately 1 second. Before, it waited up to 1 minute for a full refresh. A status line at the bottom of the window shows the result.
- 1.6.1: Feeds that give each entry address relative to the site (for example
/2026/a-post/) now load. Many Jekyll blogs do this. Before, the app dropped every entry and recorded the fetch as a success.
- 1.9.1: The app asks each site if its feed has changed before it downloads the feed again. An unchanged feed now costs a few hundred bytes. Feeds are not stored on disk, and article pages have their own cache. The old cache is emptied at launch.
- 1.9.1: Cookies are kept in memory only, and are gone when the app quits. Cookies that earlier versions saved are removed.
Moving around the paper:
- 1.6.2: A back or forward swipe turns the page, the same as commandleft and commandright. In an article, back returns to the paper. This includes three-finger trackpad swipes and mouse side buttons.
- 1.7.0, 1.7.1: When you point at a story, its address (site and path) shows in the bottom-left corner. The tooltip shows the full address. The page indicator has a fixed width and stays centred.
- 1.7.2, 1.7.3: The paper and the articles scroll with the keyboard: space, shiftspace, page down, page up, up, down, home and end. Text fields are not affected. 1.7.3 makes end go fully to the end of a long article.
- 1.8.0: KeyNav. Press tab to outline the lead story. The arrow keys move the outline to the nearest story in that direction. return opens the story and esc stops KeyNav. After you read an article, the outline is on that story, or on its replacement when Unread only is on.
- 1.8.1: The address of the outlined story shows in the bottom-left corner. If you use the mouse and the keyboard together, the corner shows the address for the one that moved last.
- 1.8.2: The outline stays in its column while pictures load. When KeyNav scrolls to a story, it shows all of the story, not part of it under the title bar.
- 1.8.3: The outline follows page down, page up, space, home and end. It stays on its story while all of the story is visible. If not, it moves to the first story whose top is on the screen.
- 1.9.0: delete or forward delete marks the outlined story as read, without opening it. With Unread only on, the story leaves the paper.
Articles:
- 1.10.0: Articles in another language can be translated on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere. Use Translate from, Show Original or Always Translate Articles. The app uses the macOS translator, which knows approximately 25 languages and needs macOS 15 or later. On macOS 26 or later, Apple Intelligence translates the languages that the macOS translator does not know.
- 1.10.0: The scrolling keys scroll the article. Before, in some articles they scrolled the paper behind it.
- 1.10.1: PDF files scroll with the same keys as articles. Pages after approximately the seventh page no longer stay blank. The pages are now drawn at the native resolution of the display.
- 1.11.0: Boss Mode. Press F6, or fnF6 when the keyboard is set to media keys. The app then shows text only: no pictures are downloaded, videos show as a placeholder, PDF files show their text only, and headlines are not enlarged. Boss Mode stays on after you quit. Its item in the View menu shows only while you hold option.
- 1.11.1: Some English articles were offered Translate from, often from Indonesian. Their headlines were mostly product names and model numbers. Language detection now reads the paragraphs too, and gives long paragraphs more weight.
- 1.11.2: The Product Page link goes to the Jorvik Daily News page.
Kairos
- 1.1.3: The About window is now the same as in the other Jorvik apps. It shows the version, the public domain declaration, and links to the source code and the Kairos page.
- 1.1.4: The About window shows the Kairos icon. Before, it showed a snapshot of the live clock from the Dock icon.
Lookout
- 1.2.2: The popover opens directly under the menu bar icon. Before, it could open lower on the screen.
- 1.3.0: When GitHub limited the rate of requests, Lookout showed “GitHub rejected the token”, stopped, and asked for a new token. Now Lookout waits and tries again.
- 1.3.0: The new Refresh interval setting is 1 to 360 minutes. The default is 1 minute.
- 1.3.1: The refresh interval field applies the value when you press return or click Done. Before, it applied each digit as you typed it: to type 166, it applied 1 first. The stepper still applies each click.
MenuTidy
- 2.3.12: Auto-collapse waits while a menu is open. Before, on macOS 27, the icon that you clicked could stop responding to clicks.
- 2.3.13: After a collapse, icons could stay visible to the left of the chevron. This occurred when a menu bar item that shows text changed width, for example the song title in Ballast. For a short time, the icons next to it report their old positions. MenuTidy now reads the menu bar again when two icons report the same position. It also reads it again approximately 1 second after you expand. If you collapse very quickly, an icon can still show for less than 1 second.
- 2.3.16: Automatic update checks work again. See Action required at the top of this changelog.
Nomen
- 1.0.0: New app. Nomen names your screenshots by what they show. It uses Apple Intelligence on your Mac, and never Private Cloud Compute. It uses the app in the screenshot as context. The menu lists the last 20 renames, with Undo and Show in Finder. A setting adds the date to the name. Nomen needs macOS 14 or later. The names from Apple Intelligence need macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
- 1.0.2: The diagnostic log no longer records the full description from Apple Intelligence. That description can contain text from the screen, for example a password. The log now records only timings, the length of the description and the final name.
WARNING: If you turned on the diagnostic log in Nomen 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, the log files in ~/Library/Logs/Nomen/ can contain text from your screenshots. Delete them.
RainbowApple
- 2.0.20: On macOS 27, the rainbow Apple hides while Mission Control is open. In light mode, the pale edge around it is gone. The backdrop is now exactly the size of the grey Apple.
WindowPin
- 2.3.0: You can crop a pin. option-drag across a pin to keep only that area. The cropped pin stays live and has the same rounded corners and shadow as other windows. option-drag inside a cropped pin to crop it more. option-click it to show the whole window again. A plain click still goes to the real window.
- 2.3.0: A cropped pin stays on top while you use other windows of the same app. It goes behind only while its own window is the active window. Crops work with several pins and with the Pin to all spaces setting.
- 2.4.0: Drag the edges or corners of a cropped pin to resize it. The scale does not change. The pin stops at the edge of the window.
A crop has two limits:
- A crop cannot follow a tab. A window draws only the tab that you look at, so a hidden tab gives nothing to show. To pin a tab, drag it out of the tab bar into its own window, then pin that window.
- A crop is a fixed area of the window. If the page scrolls or changes its layout, the content that you watch can move out of the crop. If you move the window, the crop moves with it.
For how WindowPin shows a window on top, see Building WindowPin.
